At their May 2025 meeting, the Door County Triathlon (DCT) board of directors agreed to replace the Half Iron distance triathlon with an Olympic (aka International) Distance triathlon beginning in 2026. The board based this decision on changing market conditions. “We’ve seen a significant drop in long course participation over the past ten years,” said Race Director Sean Ryan. “This move is a response to changing market demands.”

DCT organizers also plan to offer a “Best Of Both” competition for those wanting to try doing both the Saturday Sprint Triathlon and Sunday Olympic Distance Triathlon. Information regarding entry fees and course routes for the Olympic Distance event will be available in early Fall before registration opens in October.
